According to the ‘Plantagenet Blood Royal’ Walter Alfred ERRINGTON was born 24 Feb 1868, the third son of the Rev John Richard ERRINGTON, MA, Rector of Ladbrooke and Hon Canon of Worcester (    -1882), and his wife Charlotte Georgiana Amelia SHUCKBURGH (1826-1902). Walter Alfred ERRINGTON, son of John Richard & Charlotte Georgiana Amelia ERRINGTON, was baptised at Ashbourne, Derbyshire, on 26 Apr 1868.

There is a marriage registration for Walter Alfred ERRINGTON and Grace Mary LANGFORD-SAINSBURY in Jun quarter 1895 in the Frome, Somerset, registration district. The 21 Mar 1895 Morning Post and the 25 Mar 1895 Bristol Mercury notes that the marriage arranged between Mr Walter A. ERRINGTON and Miss Grace Mary LANGFORD-SAINSBURY will take place at St Gregory, Beckington, Somerset, on 17 Apr. There is a birth registration for Grace Mary SAINSBURY in Sep quarter 1865 in the Frome, Somerset, registration district. Her father was Rev Sainsbury Langford SAINSBURY (1831-1892), who was rector of Beckington, Somerset in succession to his father. Her mother was Mary BLANDY (1840-1870). Her father was the son of another Rev Sainsbury Langford SAINSBURY, also rector of Beckington, whose 1848 will was proved in 1849, a coincidence explained by the advowson of Beckington with Standerwick being one of the family properties [Somerset Heritage centre DD\BR\fr/1]. They were also lords of the manor of Beckington Rectory. In the 1881 census Grace Mary Langford SAINSBURY (15, scholar, born Beckington, Somerset) was the eldest of three Beckington-born daughters of Sainsbury Langford SAINSBURY (49, widower, Rector of Beckington & Standerwick, born Froyle, Hampshire) at the Rectory, Beckington. His household also comprised two middle aged unmarried sisters and 8 servants. In the 1871 census Grace M.S. SAINSBURY (5, born Beckington) was, together with her sister, living with a cousin in Dawlish, Devon. Her father Sainsbury Langford SAINSBURY (39, born Froyle) was at Beckington with two younger children aged 1 & 0, two sisters and 7 servants.

There is a birth registration for John Francis ERRINGTON in Jun quarter 1899 in the Lewes registration district. The 1901 census says that he was born in Ringmer, but he was not baptised here. He appears in the registers of Radley School as the son of the Rev Walter Alfred ERRINGTON of Hunsdon Rectory, Ware, Herts, and as having left in 1917, becoming 2nd Lt in the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Berkshire Regt, and serving in France in 1918. There is a memorial in Cookham parish cemetery, to Lieutenant John Francis ERRINGTON of H.M.S. Godwin, R.N.V.R., born 1899 and died 16 May 1945. He was identified as the son of Walter Alfred ERRINGTON and Grace Mary Sainsbury ERRINGTON [http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=57261478]. A naval history website gave the cause of his death as illness, and his station as ‘Godwit’ [HMS Godwit was a wartime base used for flying training]. His death, and his burial at Cookham, Berks, occurred just a few days after those of his mother.

George Bertram Sainsbury ERRINGTON, son of Walter Alfred & Grace Mary ERRINGTON, was baptised in 1902 in Hunsdon, Hertfordshire. There is a birth registration for him in the Ware registration district. In 1911 George Bertram Sainsbury ERRINGTON, age 9, born Hunsdon, was in a  Pittminster, Somerset, household. There is a death registration for George B.S. ERRINGTON aged 64 in Mar quarter 1967 in the Norwich outer registration district. He was of Hunsdon Rectory when charged with dangerous driving in 1930 [see below].

Mary Joan ERRINGTON, daughter of Walter Alfred & Grace Mary ERRINGTON, was baptised in 1903 in Hunsdon, Hertfordshire. There is a birth registration for her in Jun quarter 1903 in the Ware registration district. In 1911 Mary Joan ERRINGTON aged 7, born Hollnsdon, Herts, was in a Pittminster, Somerset, household.

Only these three children are listed in a post-1908 edition of Plantagenet Blood Royal, which describes Rev Walter ERRINGTON as rector of Hunsdon.

1881 census: At Rectory House, Ladbrooke, Warwickshire, was John R. ERRINGTON (72, Rector of Ladbrooke & Radbourne, born Masterfield, Suffolk), his wife Charlotte Amelia (54, born Chelsea) and children Frederick Francis (19, undergraduate of Oxford), Eliza Margaret (16), Wilfred John (15, scholar) & Walter Alfred (13, scholar) (all born Ashbourne) and six servants.

13 Feb 1886 Leamington Spa Courier: In the congregation at a dedication service were Lady SHUCKBURGH, Mrs ERRINGTON and Mr Walter ERRINGTON.

19 Dec 1893 London Standard: Under ‘University intelligence’ refers to Walter A. ERRINGTON, Pembroke.

25 Apr 1896 Sussex Express: The vicar had tried to work without a curate, but he had now secured the services of the Rev W. ERRINGTON, and he hoped the parishioners would give him a hearty welcome.

12 Dec 1900 Morning Post: Mrs W. ERRINGTON, Hunsdon Rectory, Ware, advertised for a good plain cook, aged 20-30, to start around Christmas.

1901 census: Walter A. ERRINGTON (33, born Ashburne, Derbyshire) was head of a household in Hunsdon, Hertfordshire. He was accompanied by his wife Grace M. ERRINGTON (35, born Beckington Bath, Somerset) and John F. ERRINGTON (2, born Ringmer).

20 Jun 1902 Leamington Spa Courier: Reports the funeral of the late Mrs ERRINGTON, widow of the late Canon ERRINGTON, rector of Ladbroke, and daughter of the late Sir Francis SHUCKBURGH. The chief mourners included Mr Fred ERRINGTON, the Rev Walter ERRINGTON, Mrs Walter ERRINGTON, Lady SHUCKBURGH, ...

2 May 1903 Sussex Express: Rev Walter ERRINGTON, Vicar of Hunston, Herts, officiated at a Lindfield wedding.

20 Jun 1903 Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser: Rev W.A. ERRINGTON helped officiate at a GLADWIN-ERRINGTON wedding at St Anne’s, Soho.

1904 Oxford & Cambridge Yearbook: Walter Alfred ERRINGTON was rector of Hunsdon, and resided at Hunsdon Rectory, Ware, Herts.

10 Jun 1904 Leamington Spa Courier:  A special service was held at the church where an appropriate sermon was preached by the Rev Walter ERRINGTON, (son of a former rector of Ladbroke). The annual dinner subsequently took place in a field.

6 Dec 1912 Leamington Spa Courier: Reports the dedication of a beautiful stained glass window, the gift of Miss ERRINGTON and the Rev Walter ERRINGTON, in memory of their parents, to whom the church was much indebted. Canon ERRINGTON had been rector of Ladbroke from 1872-1882.

25 Oct 1913 Cheltenham Looker-On: Refers to Rev Walter ERRINGTON, MA, rector of Hunsdon officiated at a BEALE-BROWN-ERRINGTON wedding.

26 Feb 1926 Kent and Sussex Courier: Rev & Mrs Walter ERRINGTON and Miss Mary ERRINGTON were present at an event.

8 Oct 1927 Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette: Rev W. ERRINGTON, rector of Hunsdon, participated in the funeral service of another clergyman.

5 Apr 1930 Derbyshire Times and Chesterfield Herald: George B. ERRINGTON of Hunsdon Rectory, Ware, was summoned for driving dangerously. ERRINGTON cross-summoned the motor-cyclist involved , who gave evidence from a stretcher.

There is a death registration for Grace M. ERRINGTON aged 78 in Jun quarter 1945 in the Maidenhead registration district. There is a 12 May 1945 burial for Mary Grace ERRINGTON at Cookham, Berks.

There is a death registration for Walter A. ERRINGTON aged 82 in Dec quarter 1951 in the Oxford registration district.

He was a talented artist. His drawing of Ringmer church was used for the frontispiece of Ringmer Parish Magazine for some years [RHSG P709 & S1037].
